Roman Abramovich and Ukrainian Peace Negotiators Report Poisoning Symptoms after Kyiv Meeting

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich reportedly experienced poisoning symptoms along with Ukraine peace negotiators after a meeting in Kyiv earlier this month.

WSJ’s Max Colchester said that according to people familiar with the incident, Abramovich and the negotiators including Crimean Tatar lawmaker Rustem Umerov experienced symptoms such as red eyes, constant and painful tearing, and peeling skin on their faces and hands.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky however did not experience any symptoms after meeting with Abramovich and Umerov. Bellingcat can confirm that three members of the delegation attending the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia on the night of 3 to 4 March 2022 experienced symptoms consistent with poisoning with chemical weapons. One of victims was Russian entrepreneur Roman Abramovich,” said Bellingcat.

Abramovich and the negotiators have reportedly recovered while their lives are not in danger.

There is still no information on who might have targeted Abramovich and the Ukrainian officials and how it was conducted.

The Kremlin has not yet released a statement on the incident.
