North Macedonia Expels Russian Diplomats for Alleged Espionage

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia has declared five  Russian diplomats persona non grata and gave them five days to leave the country.

“According to the information received from the competent authorities, the said persons carried out activities that are contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and will have to leave the territory of the Republic of Northern Macedonia in the next five days,” explained the North Macedonian Foreign Ministry.

Skopje however has not provided details on the identities of the diplomats and what they did.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that they would take retaliatory measures against  “an emphatically unfriendly step.”
