Lebanese and Syrian Men Detained for Murdering a Mother and Her Three Daughters

Lebanese police on Monday arrested two suspects (a Lebanese and Syrian national) for the horrific murder of a mother and her three daughters whose dead bodies were found on Friday in a southern Lebanon town.

Police identified the first suspect as Hussein Fayyad and the second as Hassan Ghabbash who is from Syria. “Ghabbash was attempting to flee Lebanon to Syria when he was detained in the Begaa region on Sunday,” a military official told The New Arab, requesting anonymity.

Moreover, a smuggler who helped bring Ghabbash inside Lebanon was also arrested on Monday morning, according to the source.

The dead bodies of Basma Abbas and her three daughters, Tala, 22, Rima, 20 and Manal 16-year-old were found in an orchard between the southern towns of Ansar and al-Zararia.

Lebanon’s army in a statement said that the dead bodies were immediately taken to a local hospital for autopsy and pos-mortem.

Investigations are still ongoing to find the motivation behind the murder, the statement added.
