Georgia Teenager Accepted to Almost 50 Colleges

An 18-year old Georgia high school senior has received acceptance letters from 49 colleges and over $1 million in scholarship offers.

Makenzie Thompson, who got offers from almost 50 schools said she did not plan to apply to over 50 universities.

But, Thompson ended up applying to 51 colleges after attending college fairs and securing fee waivers.

Thompson has been accepted to 49 colleges and universities so far and is still waiting for a response from one more application.

“It was a very, very good experience, just to see your hard work paying off and getting to see them just pile up in a folder. My family is ecstatic,” Thompson said.

Thompson has been a star student throughout high school, which she credited to strict time management.

“Without time management, or knowing how to multitask, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything,” Thompson said.

Thompson is the current senior class president at Westlake High School in Atlanta, the vice president of Beta Club (a community service organization), the co-captain of the Blue Reign dance team, and a varsity baseball manager. Thompson is also a member of the national honor society and the honor society of dance and arts.

Thompson said he is hoping to become a veterinarian.

Next year, Thompson will study Animal Sciences at Tuskegee University.
