Turkey’s Navy stopped maritime traffic in the Bosphorus Strait to detonate a mine that had drifted into the strait from the Black Sea.
The Russian military had warned Turkey that mines had drifted from Ukrainian ports.
In a televised statement, Turkey’s defense minister said: “The mine, determined to be an old type, was neutralised by our team…and naval forces continue their vigilant work.”
A large explosion was observed north of the city of Istanbul, in an area of military vessel and aircraft activity.
