Hillsong Church Founder Brian Houston Resigns after Sexual Misconduct Information

Australia’s largest evangelical church, Hillsong, announced on Wednesday the resignation of its Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston after facing an internal misconduct investigation.

Houston’s resignation came following the result of the investigation which concluded that he had acted inappropriately toward two women, according to a report by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

A Hillsong Church’s statement posted on the website confirmed Houston’s resignation.

The Hillsong Global and Australian Board has accepted his resignation.

“We acknowledge that change is needed. We have committed to an independent review of our governance structure and processes, understanding that this is a time of humble reflection and we are committed to doing what is necessary to ensure God is honored, and our eyes are fixed on Jesus,” the Hillsong Global said in a statement.

Houston founded the Hillsong Church together with his wife Bobbie in 1983.

Hillsong has churches that claim to have an average global attendance of 150,000 weekly.
