Saudi and Russian FMs Discuss Russian Invasion of Ukraine in Phone Call

The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. spoke on the phone about the Ukraine crisis, in which Prince Faisal reiterated Kingdom’s support for peaceful resolution to the crisis.

During the talks, Prince Faisal told Lavrov that Saudi Arabia is ready to host talks between the warring countries, urging Russia to de-escalate the conflict.

The two sides also discussed bilateral relations between Saudi and Russia, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The talks came just days after Prince Faisal met with Rustem Umerov, a special envoy for Ukraine’s president, in Riyadh.

Prince Faisal, during the meeting, had reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support to efforts that contribute to de-escalating the conflict, protecting civilians and reaching a political solution.

On February 24, Russia began an invasion of Ukraine, which President Vladimir Putin claims as a “special military” operation.

Nearly 1,000 civilians were killed and over hundreds others were wounded since the start of invasion with over 3 million are now displaced and taken refugee to the neighboring countries.
