Fentanyl Released in Ohio Detention Center Vent System, 7 Hospitalized

An official from the Williams County Sheriff’s Department said fentanyl leaked through the air vents at the Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention Training and Rehabilitation Center in Williams County on Sunday night, sending seven people to the hospital.

Jeff Lehman, head deputy for the Williams County Sheriff’s Department, told WTVG three prison officials and four adolescents who were detained in the institution were sent to the hospital.

Lehman added the three prison officials and four adolescents are stable and should be fine.

In a separate report by local television station WTOL, the Williams County Sheriff’s Department, Stryker Police Department, and Bryan Fire responded to the facility on County Rd. around 8:30 p.m.

According to Lehman, the other detainees were transferred to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, which is located next door.

The detainees are currently being kept apart from the adults.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the fentanyl leaked into the ventilation system.
