Russia Claims to Use Hypersonic Missile in Combat Operation

Russia claims to have hypersonic missiles for the first time in combat in Ukraine to destroy a weapons storage site in the western portion of the country.

Fourth Estate has not been able to independently verify Russian claims.

If true this would mark the first time that a hypersonic missile has been used in combat.

Hypersonic missile travels at speeds five times or more faster than the speed of sound (3836 mph).

Russia’s hypersonic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile, are allegedly capable of reaching Mach 10  (7672 mph) and distances up to 1200 miles.

There is no operational missile defense system that can intercept or deny the use of these strategic weapons.

“The  Kinzhal aviation missile system with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles  destroyed a large underground warehouse containing missiles and aviation  ammunition in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region,”  defence ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.

The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not immediately commented.
