More than 1300 Ukrainian Civilians Reportedly Trapped Under Mariupol Theater

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova has claimed that at least 1300 civilians remain trapped under the Mariupol theater after it was bombed by Russian forces.

Mariupol residents and other refugees were taking shelter in the Mariupol theater before it was targeted by heavy Russian bombardment last Thursday.

“As of this hour, we know that just now 130 people have been evacuated, but, according to our data, there are still more than 1,300 people who are in these basements, in this bomb shelter. We pray that all of them will be alive, but so far there is no information about them, ” said Denisova.

Some trapped civilians have started emerging from the rubble while rescue efforts are still ongoing despite the bombardment.

There are no official death tolls yet while Denisova added that there could be more because at least 70% of the city has been bombed.
