Fox News Criticized for Not Reporting Death of Ukrainian Producer Killed Alongside Cameraman

United States media company Fox News has faced criticisms for failing to include in their report the death of a Ukrainian producer who was killed alongside their cameraman while covering the Russian invasion.

The Kyiv Independent Chief Editor Olga Rudenko said on Twitter that Ukrainian producer Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova was killed alongside Fox News cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, but the U.S. media company “doesn’t even mention her in their report.”

Rudenko also posted a screenshot comparing the headlines of Fox News and other media companies.

Alik Sardarian, a Kyiv-based producer, said on Facebook that Fox News “weren’t interested in locating Olexandra at all. They cared only about Pierre.”

Sardarian claimed that he had details on Kuvshynova’s and Zakrzewski’s deaths, saying that “they went to the place they shouldn’t be with people they shouldn’t be with to shoot something they could do in Kyiv downtown.”

“All the responsibility for the death of Ukrainian producer is on the channel. They need [to] take all the responsibility for her death,” Sardarian said.

After Fox News reported on Zakrzewski’s death, they later published a report that Kuvshynova was also killed.

“Sasha was just 24 years old and was serving as a consultant for us in Ukraine. She was helping our crews navigate Kyiv and the surrounding area while gathering information and speaking to sources,” Fox News Media Chief Executive Suzanne Scott told staff on March 15.

Kuvshynova and Zakrzewski died when an incoming fire struck their vehicle outside of Kyiv on March 14. They were reporting with correspondent Benjamin Hall, who has been hospitalized for his injuries.

United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization Director-General Audrey Azoulay condemned the killings and called for “respect of international humanitarian standards, to ensure that journalists and media workers are protected.”
