Taiwanese Mirage 2000 Jet Crashes into Ocean

A Taiwanese Air Force  Mirage 2000-5  fighter jet has crashed off the east coast of the Island during a routine training mission.on Monday.

According to the Air Force Command Headquarters Mirage, 2000-5 belonging to Hsinchu Air Base took off at Chihhang Air Base at 10:08 a.m. local time for a routine combat training mission but the pilot reported that he had to eject at around 11:26 a.m.,

The pilot Lieutenant Colonel Huang Chung-kai was able to eject successfully and was later rescued by a black hawk helicopter before being taken to Taitung MacKay Memorial Hospital.

Taiwan’s Air Force said that the accident was likely caused by a mechanical malfunction but they have still not found the jet.

The Mirage was reportedly made last Feb. 26, 1998. and has cleared routine inspections on Sept. 29, 2021.

The Air Force denied reports that the Mirage 2000-5 fighter was intercepting Chinese military aircraft when it crashed.
