Instagram Blocked in Russia

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation announced that it has blocked access to Instagram.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov explained that Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has not maintained its ban on calls for violence against the Russian military on social networks Facebook and Instagram.

“So far, this can hardly be assumed. Moreover, although the company is trying to somehow distance itself from the very, very unpleasant mistakes made earlier, it indirectly admits that we are talking about such decisions when such methods are acceptable on the territory of Ukraine,” said Peskov.

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin explained only after Meta removes all restrictions on the Russian media and the company complies with all the laws of the Russian Federation, they can be unblocked.

“Unfortunately, today the Meta corporation is an instrument of information warfare on one of the parties, and it does it rather dirty. Meta should become not a propaganda tool, but a social network, that is, what it is in a shell. They have repeatedly said that they are interested in landing in Russia and our market is interesting to them. Therefore, they must comply with Russian laws in full. It will not work to be a little pregnant, ” said Gorelkin.

Facebook was blocked by Roskomnadzor on March 4 along with Twitter.
