DC Police and NYPD Search for Masked Homeless Killer

DC Metro Police and the NYPD are on the manhunt for a masked suspect who has shot several homeless people in Washington DC and New York in a span of nine days.

Since March 3, have been five shootings, including two homicides in Washington DC and New York where the victims were homeless individuals. 

The first victim was an adult male who was shot several times in New York Avenue, DC but survived. 

The second victim, also male, was reported on March 8 at the 1700 block of H Street, Northeast.

On March 9, 2022, another male victim was found lifeless and bore gunshot and knife wounds in the area of the 400 block of New York Avenue after a tent fire was reported.

By March 12, the cases in New York started where a male victim was in the arm while sleeping on King Street near Varick Street at 4:30 am EST. 

Hours later, another male victim was found shot and killed in Soho at approximately 5:00 pm.

Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell and Chief of Police Robert J. Contee, III of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said that the crimes have been committed by the same suspect, 

The NYPD, the MPDC and the ATF are investigating the case and are offering a $25,000 reward in DC and a $10,000 reward in New York for information leading to the gunman’s arrest.

“Our homeless population is one of our most vulnerable and an individual praying on them as they sleep is an exceptionally heinous crime. We will use every tool, every technique, and every partner to bring the killer to justice,” said Sewell.
