Kuwait has appointed Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al Sabah, as Interior Minister and Sheikh Talal Al Sabah as Defense Minister aimed at political tensions with the country’s elected parliament.
The new appointments were made months after Kuwait’s Emir accepted the resignations of former defense minister Sheikh Hamad Al Sabah and interior minister Sheikh Ahmad Al Mansour.
The two ministers, who were both members of the ruling family, had submitted their resignations in protest over recent questioning of ministers in Kuwait’s parliament.
Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Sabah met with the newly appointed defense and interior ministers, and affirmed the necessity of increasing efforts to protect Kuwait’s security.
Nawaf Al Sabah also reiterated the importance of working with the legislative authority to best serve Kuwait and its citizens, and wished them further success.
Resigned Defense Minister Sheikh Hamad, who survived a no-confidence vote in Kuwait’s Parliament last month, was quoted by Al Qabas as saying his decision was driven by “arbitrary” questioning of ministers that has impeded government work.
