Airbnb Users Donate Money to Ukraine Through Reservations

Airbnb users from around the world have been booking vacation rentals in war-torn Ukraine, not to stay in them but to donate financial aid to local hosts struggling to survive the Russian invasion.

About $1.9 million was spent on reservations to stay for 61,000 nights in Ukraine last week, according to an Airbnb spokesperson.

Several users on social media shared their experiences booking their rentals and exchanging messages with the Ukrainian hosts.

A Twitter user shared their conversation with a rental owner who initially rejected their booking because of the war, where they replied: “I understand, but I ask you to accept the booking and take my money as a donation/support for you and your friends/family.”

Airbnb did not start the campaign, but actively supports it by waiving all booking fees in Ukraine so that hosts can receive the 100 percent of the payments.
