One Dead, Two Injured in Shooting Outside Iowa High School

One person died and two others were injured in a shooting outside a high school building in Des Moines, Iowa on March 7 afternoon, police said.

Three students were brought to the hospital in critical condition and police later said that one victim died.

The victims included two boys and one girl, fire department spokesperson Ahman Douglass told CNN.

The shooting occurred outside the building of East High School, but on school grounds at around 3 p.m. local time, according to the police.

Police also said that the gunfire appeared to come from a passing vehicle.

The school went under lockdown and later dismissed students, the Des Moines Public Schools said in a statement on Twitter.

Police believe there was no longer a threat to the public.

Police took multiple suspects in custody, but no charges have been filed.

“We’ve got some potential suspects detained. That will be a piece that moves through the night that we’re going to have to be working on,” Police Sergeant Paul Parizek told KCCI.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives of Kansas City said agents were on the scene to assist in the investigation.
