Israel Airstrike Kills 2 Syrians in Damascus

At least two Syrian citizens were killed on Monday morning in an Israeli missile attack targeting the capital city Damascus – Syrian officials claimed they have intercepted most of the missiles.

“At about 05:00 a.m. (0300GMT) on Monday, the Israeli enemy launched an aerial act of aggression from the direction of southern Beirut, targeting with missiles some sites in Damascus vicinity,” Syria’s state media, SANA reported.

Quoting military sources, SANA reported that the Syrian “air defenses intercepted the missiles and downed most of them.”

“Two civilians were martyred in the aggression which also caused some material damages,” the sources added.

On February 24, three Syrian soldiers were killed after an Israeli missile struck some sites in the Damascus vicinity.

Israel has intensified launching strikes in Damascus as part of its campaign against pro-Iranian forces supporting the Bashar al-Assad regime and groups affiliated with Iran.

Israel carried out hundreds of air strikes on Syria’s territory since the break of civil war in 2011, targeting government positions, repeatedly to stop Iran from deepening its influence in Syria.

However, Israeli government did not comment on Monday’s aerial attacks so far.
