Ukraine Scuttles Navy Flagship

Ukraine announced scuttled its own flagship, the Hetman Sahaidachny as fears of an amphibious assault in Odessa grow.

“The commander of the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy followed the order to flood the ship so that the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate, which was under repair, would not fall into the hands of the enemy. It is hard to imagine a more difficult decision for a courageous soldier and crew,” said Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.

Photos of the Hetman Sahaidachny show the ship partly submerged in the water with no crew on board,

Hetman Sahaidachny is a Krivak class frigate originally built at the Kerch Shipyard as a Project 1135.1 patrol ship of Nerei / Krivak III / Menzhinskiy class and was launched on 29 March 1992 and has been in port at Odessa since March 2014,
