Indian officials on Friday said that 11 people were killed in a fireworks explosion that occurred inside a house where sparklers were being made illegally.
Subrat Kumar Sen, Local Magistrate of Bhagalpur District in the Eastern Bihar State, said that the blast was so heavy that it also destroyed four adjoining houses.
“Eleven people have been killed and five others who are injured are undergoing treatment,” Sen said.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences for the “painful” loss of life, and assured to provide all possible assistance in relief and rescue operations
This is not the first incident as in the past several people lost their lives to similar incidents. In 2019, 18 people were killed in an explosion at a firecracker factory in the northern state of Punjab.
Deadly blasts are often occurring in areas where firecracker are being illegal made across India because many of the workshops do not maintain basic safety measures.
