North Korea Slams US at UN Over Russian Sanctions

North Korea’s ambassador to the global body took the podium on Tuesday at an emergency U.N. session and blasted the U.S. for the absurdity of urging Moscow to respect its neighbor’s borders.

North Korea ambassador to the UN Kim Song was the only attendee to speak out in defense of Russia’s actions at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

“We clearly remember how Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity were violated by the U.S. and the West in the past under the pretext of international peace and security,” Kim said, echoing DPRK foreign ministry statements in recent days that blamed the U.S. as the “root cause” of the war in Ukraine.

“It is absurd for the U.S. and the West, that have devastated Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, to mention the respects of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the situation of Ukraine,” Kim added.

Kim concluded that there will never be peace “as long as there remains the unilateral and double-dealing policy of the U.S.”

Most diplomats who spoke on the second day of the emergency meeting, including South Korea’s Ambassador to the U.N. Cho Hyun, criticized Russia for choosing war and urged Moscow to withdraw its military forces.
