Uzbekistan Hosts OSCE Conference on Regional Cooperation In Fight Against Terrorism

The government of Uzbekistan will host a high-level international conference on March 3-4 on regional cooperation of Central Asian countries, where the participants will hold talks on how to effectively address the conditions conducive to the spread of the terrorism.

The conference will be held within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said in a statement.   

According to OSCE, this international event, proposed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address to the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, and coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Joint Plan of Action (JPoA)  will make a significant contribution to consolidating the efforts of the countries of the region and the international community in the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (UN GCTS) in Central Asia. 

The conference will be attended by more than 600 senior Member State officials from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, including the five permanent members of the Security Council.

Within the framework of the conference, the participants will discuss issues on how to address the conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism – preventing and countering terrorism –building states’ capacity to prevent and combat terrorism and to strengthen the role of the United Nations system in that regard — and ensuring respect for human rights for all and the rule of law as the fundamental basis for the fight against terrorism. 

OSCE said at the end of conference, the participants will be released Tashkent Declaration, in which the countries of Central Asia will define specific tasks for and reaffirm their commitment to the joint fight against terrorism, which poses a serious threat to international peace and security.
