Ukranian Navy ‘Snake Island Defenders’ Alive

The Ukrainian Navy announced that the troops guarding Snake Island that were presumed dead are alive, but have been captured by Russian forces.

“Regarding the Marines and border guards, who were taken captive by Russian occupiers on the island of Snake. We are very happy to learn that our brothers are alive and well with them!,” said the Russian Navy.

The Ukrainian troops at Snake island became famous after they were recorded voicing obscenities at a Russian warship before being attacked.

The Ukrainian servicemen were reportedly rescued by the Sapphire, a civilian ship that was sent to the island to carry out a humanitarian mission but was captured by Russians.

Ukraine has demanded the release of the “illegally detained” servicemen because the Sapphire was a “non-combatant civilian vessel that did not carry out any military missions is a violation of the rules and customs of war and international humanitarian law.”
