French Navy Intercepts Russian Cargo Ship off the English Channel

The French Maritime Prefecture of the English Channel  reported that it has intercepted the Russian-flagged Baltic Leader that was “suspected of belonging to a Russian company that is currently on a sanctions list by the EU.”

Baltic Leader was reportedly headed to the port city of Saint Petersburg but was escorted to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer by French forces.

“On February 26 at 07:00 in the territorial waters of France near the city of Boulogne-sur-Mer, the Russian cargo ship Baltic leader was detained. Its crew is 19 people,” confirmed the Russian, diplomatic mission.

French authorities are still investigating if the Baltic Leader violated any sanctions while its crew is cooperating with them. 

None of the Baltic Leader crew have been detained but there is no information on what will happen to its car cargo.
