China announced sanctions against Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin over arms sales to Taiwan.
“In accordance with the relevant stipulations in China’s anti-foreign sanctions law, the Chinese government has decided to take countermeasures on the infringing acts of Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin,” said Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin.
According to Wang, they are just continuing “to take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard its sovereignty and security interests in accordance with the development of the situation.”
There is no further information on the sanctions against Lockheed and Raytheon but Beijing has already announced similar sanctions in the past over aircraft sales.
Beijing continues to maintain that Taiwan is part of their territory and that selling them arms or military hardware violates the one-China principle.
Both Raytheon and Lockheed Martin have not yet commented on the sanctions.
