Russia Announces End of Exercises at Ukraine Border, Recalls Some Troops

Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced some military units have been recalled to their bases after completing exercises near Ukraine’s border while the foreign ministry said the West has been “humiliated” over its warnings about an alleged invasion.

“The units of the Southern and Western military districts, having completed their tasks, have already begun loading onto rail and road transport and today they will begin moving to their military garrisons. Individual units will march on their own as part of military columns,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov.

Konashenkov said there are still forces carrying out land and sea training with Belarusian forces.

The withdrawal of troops was not expected after the US, Ukraine, and NATO alleged during the recent weeks that an invasion was imminent and even said that there was a plan to launch one on February 16.

“February 15, 2022, will go down in history as the day Western war propaganda failed. Humiliated and destroyed without a single shot fired,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
