‘Maid’ Creator Inks Netflix Overall Deal

The creator of The Maid has inked a multi-year overall agreement with Netflix and will develop more socially aware originals featuring powerful roles for women on both sides of the camera.

Maid, a Warner Bros. production, brings the news. Television continues to work well for Netflix as part of exec producer John Wells’ overall contract with the company. According to Netflix, the limited series, which debuted on October 1, is still in the top ten, with 469 million hours seen in its first 28 days.

Metzler, a Juilliard graduate, also wrote for Netflix’s Lionsgate-produced Orange Is the New Black and previously worked with Wells on Shameless and Maid. CAA, Grandview, and McKuin Frankel represent her.

Metzler joins a fast-increasing list of Netflix writers/showrunners with overall deals, including Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, and the Duffer brothers, to name a few, as the streaming service continues to prioritize controlling its original programming.
