Israel PM Bennett Arrives in Bahrain To Further Bolster Ties

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett landed in Manama, the capital city of Bahrain on Monday for the highest-level visit between the two countries since normalization of diplomatic ties under a US-brokered deal.

Prior to his departure for Manama, Bennett told reporters on the tarmac in Israel that “this is an exciting event, and during this stormy period it is important that from our region there come a message of cooperation, goodwill and a joint stand against threats.”

Bennet was welcomed by Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani and Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Rashid Al-Zayani.

Bennett will meet Bahrain’s ruler, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the country’s crown prince and prime minister, Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa on Tuesday, his office said in a statement,

“Their meeting on Tuesday will revolve around deepening the bilateral relationship between the countries,” the statement added.

Both sides will also discuss regional economic and diplomatic issues, including technological innovation, according to the statement.

This is the first high-level meeting after Israel and Bahrain signed a normalization agreement as part of the Abraham Accords in September 2020.
