An explosion in front of Grand Jami Mosque in northwestern Afghanistan killed one worshiper and wounded 15 others during Friday prayers, a Taliban official said.
Badghis Public Health Director Mohammad Asif Qanit said the cause of the blast is unknown, but assured to carry out a thorough investigation in the incident.
“Among the 15 injured worshipers, one of them is in critical condition,” Qanit said, adding all the victims were civilians, including children.
Qanit said the blast happened when the worshippers were coming out of the mosque in Qala-e-Naw, the provincial capital city.
No group has immediately asserted responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State (IS) has repeatedly claimed credit for such attacks in the past across Afghanistan.
