Ukraine Protests Russian Black Sea Drills

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has protested the Russian naval drills at the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and the Kerch Strait.

“Unprecedented coverage of maneuvers makes navigation in both seas virtually impossible. In essence, this is a significant and unjustified complication of international shipping, especially trade, which can cause complex economic and social consequences, especially for the ports of Ukraine,” said the ministry.

The ministry added that the drills were a threat to Ukraine’s sovereign rights and a violation UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

According to the Ukrainian Southern Military District, six large landing ships of Russia’s Northern and Baltic Fleets have also recently docked in occupied Sevastopol.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that they are already mulling deploying battle groups in Romania near the Black Sea amid the heavy Russian presence.
