Qatar Says It Supports a Stable Libya

The government of Qatar reiterated support for a peaceful solution to the political calamity in Libya in order to preserve the country’s unity, stability, and sovereignty.

Qatari Foreign Ministry in a statement said that Khalid bin Youssef Al-Sada, the Ambassador of Qatar to Italy, and Qatar’s Ambassador to Libya, Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Dosari participated in a meeting of senior officials in Rome, where they discussed in detail the current political issues in Libby.

The officials have discussed the Libya situation from different aspects in order to promote a coherent international position to support the Libyan-led political process, the statement added.

The participants categorically supported the United Nations’ stance for a peaceful resolution to the Libyan political pandemonium.

Qatar’s delegation, while reiterating support for political stability in Libya, said Qatar fully supports Security Council resolutions for a peaceful solution to the issue.

This comes just days after Italy’s Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams met in Rome and both sides discussed efforts to prevent division in the country as a result of political anarchy.

During the meeting, De Maio expressed concern over prolonging the political stalemate that affected the country’s election process.

Libya was due to hold elections on 24 of last December, but it has been postponed due to disagreements among political parties. No new date has been announced so far.
