Man Who Swallowed 91 Narcotic Pills Arrested in Bahrain Airport: Official

Bahrain’s Public Prosecution on Wednesday announced that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 91 pills of narcotics, which were found hidden inside a passenger’s guts.

The man was arrested in the Bahrain International Airport, the office said in a statement, adding the suspect was arrested following a tip-off sent to the Bahrain customs officials over an alleged smuggling attempt.

According to the statement, the detained man said he swallowed the pills at separate times. The name of the suspect and from where he was coming to Bahrain was not disclosed. The suspect said he wanted to peddle the pills in the Bahrain market.

The weight of the pills was 690 grams, the statement said, adding that they have launched investigations into the case to find if there are any people involved in the smuggling bid.

This comes as Bahrain on Monday announced a Gold Residency Visa for foreigners as part of the country’s economic recovery plan.

The visa will provide the holder the right to work in Bahrain, residency benefits for a spouse and other close family members. They can also exit and enter Bahrain without any restrictions.
