Roger Deakins Knighted at Windsor Castle

Prince Charles knighted legendary cameraman Sir Roger Deakins on February 1 at Windsor Castle. He is the first cameraman to get this distinction.

Deakins’ wife and partner, digital workflow specialist James Ellis Deakins, was also present at the event. The couple is now in the United Kingdom. preparing for Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light, set in England.

Roger Deakins was made CBE in 2013, and in the 2021 New Years Honors, it was revealed that he will be knighted.

Deakins has been nominated 14 times for an Oscar for films like The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, Kundun, O Brother, Where Art Thou, The Reader, True Grit, Skyfall, Prisoners, Unbroken, and Sicario, as well as The Man Who Wasn’t There, No Country For Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Deakins has also received five BAFTAs and five competitive American Society of Cinematographers Awards, in addition to the 2011 ASC Lifetime Achievement Award.
