Ukrainian Police Claim Foiling Mass Riot Plot

Ukrainian Police claimed that they have arrested several suspects who were plotting to incite mass riots amid tensions with Russia.

“A group of people who were planning mass riots in the center of Kyiv was detained yesterday. There were plans to gather up to 5,000 [participants in the riots], including up to 1,500 thugs who were to arrange fights with law enforcement officers,” said Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky.

Monastyrsky said the suspects were planning a rally in Kyiv and a number of other cities to create chaos and that they were caught with props such as fake blood.

Ukraine National Police chief Ihor Klymenko confirmed the arrest of the suspects and said the suspects were detained on Sunday, January 30.

“Such an event was planned more than once. In February, there were orders for four more such rallies in the regional centers of our state,” said Klymenko.
