Israel Buys 5m Novavax Vaccines To Tame COVID-19 Infections

Israel’s Health Ministry announced on Friday that it agreed to deal with US-based biotech company Novavax to buy five million COVID-19 vaccine doses as part of its efforts to vaccinate the majority of the population against COVID-19.

The ministry said in a statement that Israel expected to get the vaccine doses in the upcoming few months adding the doses required approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.

Meanwhile, 57,563 people were tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours while 946 patients are in intensive care units and 213 patients are on ventilators.

Recently the Coronavirus National Information and Knowledge Center said some 960,500 COVID-19 cases were identified during 2021, while in January of 2020 so far more than 1,160,000 were tested positive.

Earlier, Israel Prime Minister Naftali Bennett expressed concern and said Israel could see up to nearly 40 percent of the population infected by COVID-19 during the current wave.

“Data presented at the cabinet meeting indicates that here, in Israel, between two to four million citizens in total will be infected during this current wave,” Bennett said in a tweet message.
