Heavy Snowfall Kills 42 People in Afghanistan

The Taliban regime’s State Ministry for Disaster Management Affairs on Monday said that at least 42 people, including women and children, have died due to heavy snowfalls and cold weather in 15 provinces across Afghanistan in the last 20 days.

Ministry’s Deputy, Enayatullah Shuja said 76 people were also hospitalized in the time span.

Shuja said that hundreds of stranded people were rescued, but rescue operations are still ongoing as heavy snowfall covered several highways, causing traffic blockage,” Shuja added.

Shuja furthered that affected people were provided with emergency aid, but said more work should be done to reach all the affected families.

“We are in contact with different aid agencies to rapidly deliver assistance to those who are affected,” Shuja added.

Recently, two earthquakes jolted western Badghis province that claimed the lives of 28 people and destroyed up to 1,000 houses.
