US to Respond to Russia Demands Next Week

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the US will deliver their written demands next week regarding security guarantees in Ukraine.

“We discussed Ukraine today. Our American colleagues again tried to put the problems on the border between Russia and Ukraine at the forefront, tried to condition everything else on the need for the so-called de-escalation. This has already become such a spell. that we will receive written responses to all our proposals next week,”  said Lavrov after meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

Lavrov added that the response may be published but they will still have to ask for the consent of the US.

According to Lavrov, the US tried to prioritize Ukraine during negotiations, but in the end “realized it is necessary to focus on Russia’s proposals.”

Blinken said that the US intended not only to respond to the concerns that Russia has raised but to raise their concerns as well.

Blinken said that future meetings with Russia will probably remain at the ministerial level and President Joe Biden is willing to meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

Among Russia’s known demands were the permanent prohibition on Ukrainian membership in NATO and the departure of US and allied military presence in eastern Europe.
