Alexa Outage Causes Chaos in the EU

An Amazon Alexa outage in the EU and UK has caused problems for several households who were relied on its smart home integration.

UK users reported the outage at around 7 AM local time and were later reported in Ireland, Germany, Italy and Spain as well.

“This morning we had an issue that impacted some Alexa customers’ ability to interact with the service. The Alexa service is now operating normally,” said Amazon.

Users later reported that their Alexa devices and appliances linked to it were inoperable.

“My whole house relies on Alexa for lighting, heating, security, doors etc – I’m sitting in a dark house in the cold and the door won’t open,” said one user.

Other users reported that voice commands to Alexa devices were not working, or received messages that “something went wrong” or that Alexa has lost its connection.

Users later reported that their  Alexa devices were working again while Amazon has not yet disclosed the reason for the outage.
