President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed bilateral relations with his Kazakhstan counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev over the phone on Thursday.
Mirziyoyev and Tokayev also discussed relevant aspects of bilateral and regional cooperation, the Uzbek president’s press service said in a statement.
During the conversation, Mirziyoyev fully supported measures undertaken by Tokayev for restoration of peace and normalization of the situation in Kazakhstan.
The two sides also exchanged views about regional security, reviewed the schedule of upcoming meetings, the statement added.
The telephonic conversation was made one day after Tokayev dismissed his defense minister, Murat Bektanov in the wake of unprecedented demonstrations that left hundreds of people dead and wounded.
Tokayev accused Bektanov for a lack of leadership qualities during the unrest and was fired on Wednesday.
