Turkey’s health ministry reported another 75,564 new COVID-19 cases and 153 related deaths in the past 24 hours.
The new COVID-19 cases were reported out of 410,116 suspected virus samples tested during the same period of hours, the ministry said in a statement.
Another 51,675 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.
To stem the surge in new infections, the health ministry said they have accelerated vaccination drives, in which more than 57.2 million people have gotten their first jab, while over 52.05 million are fully vaccinated.
Booster shots have been given to more than 22.77 million people, according to the statement.
According to the US-based Johns Hopkins University, since December 2019, the COVID-19 has claimed nearly 5.51 million lives in at least 192 countries and regions, with more than 317.48 million cases reported worldwide.
