Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said that Turkmenistan is ready to start exporting natural gas and electricity to Kazakhstan from March, hoping the situation will be normalized in the neighboring state in near future.
Meredov made the commitment during the virtual meeting with members of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States, where they also discussed the current situation in Kazakhstan, his office said in a statement.
“We support a stable Kazakhstan,” Meredov said, adding Turkmenistan is interested in a stable socio-political and socio-economic development of the country.
Meanwhile, Kazakh authorities on Wednesday said they have detained nearly 1,700 more people during the past 24 hours for their alleged participation in anti-government protests last week.
The 1,678 people were only arrested in Almaty, the country’s largest city and the site of the most violent clashes during the unrest between the protestors and law enforcement.
Almaty police said that in total 12,000 people were arrested since the demonstrations started on January 2.
