The President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi on Monday expressed readiness to scale-up efforts to further improve relations with Turkmenistan, his office said in a statement.
Raisi said Iran is looking forward to having close relations with all the neighboring countries after meeting with Special Envoy of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov,
“Iran attaches special importance to Turkmenistan,” Raisi said, adding effective steps in political, economic, cultural, and social relations will serve the interests of the peoples of the two countries.
Rasis furthered that obstacles ahead of cooperation in transport and energy sectors were removed.
Rasis stressed that there is a possibility for mutual cooperation and further expansion of relations between the two states in areas of economic and mutual trust. “I see no restrictions in this regard,” Rasis added.
In his part, Turkmen Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his country’s intentions to further develop relations with Iran in areas of gas, transport, economy, and trade.
“Turkmenistan wants to open a new historical page in relations with Iran,” Berdimuhamedov said, adding contracts on several projects are expected to be signed with Iran.
