The first full-length trailer for Peacock’s impending dark take on the legendary Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Bel-Air has been released.
The nearly three-minute trailer s the first actual footage from the series, after the NBCUniversal-backed streaming service’s previous release of a sleek rendition of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme music.
Peacock acquired Bel-Air in September 2020 with a two-season deal, inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral video. The program was supposed to launch last year, but creative issues forced not one, but two showrunner changes.
Smith, Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and original series creators Andy and Susan Borowitz are also executive producers on the show.
Peacock describes the show as “set in modern-day America and imagines the beloved sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air through a new, dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known.”
Will is played by newcomer Jabari Banks. Adrian Holmes (Phillip), Cassandra Freeman (Vivian), Olly Sholotan (Carlton), Coco Jones (Hilary), Akira Akbar (Ashley), Jimmy Akingbola (Geoffrey), Jordan L. Jones (Jazz), and Simone Joy Jones are among the cast members (Lisa).
The first three episodes of Bel-Air will air on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 13, followed by fresh episodes every week thereafter.
