Thailand Suspends Quarantine-free Entry Indefinitely Amid New COVID-19 Outbreak

The Thai government has extended the suspension of quarantine-free entry for fully vaccinated tourists on Friday after a jump in new coronavirus cases linked to the Omicron variant.

Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said that the “Test & Go” quarantine waiver scheme would not accept new applications until further notice, however, existing applicants could still enter Thailand without quarantine until January 15.

“We can still make changes if the situation improves, but for now, we have to learn more about Omicron,” Taweesilp said.

Taweesilp said that “Test & Go” has registered about 10,000 people, and the government said they have to arrive in Thailand on January 10.

“Test & Go is a loophole for the virus to enter the country,” Taweesilp added.

According to Public Health Ministry officials, most new infections of the Omicron variant have been linked to people who entered under the Test & Go scheme.
