Egypt reported 840 fresh cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, increasing the overall cases to 390,294.
Spokesman for the Health Ministry, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said another 19 patients lost their lives to the virus during the same period of time.
“The pandemic has taken a total of 21,882 lives since its outbreak” Ghaffar said in a statement.
Ghaffar added that another 512 patients have been discharged from hospitals after their tests were reported negative.
“The discharged patients are in good health,” he said. According to Ghaffar, as many as 324,425 people have been recovered from the virus so far.
On 18 December, Egypt’s health ministry announced they have identified the country’s first three cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the COVID-19.
The three people were found to have the variant among 26 travelers who tested positive at Cairo International Airport.
Egyptian health officials didn’t say where the three came from.
