Justin Long, Augustus Prew, and Andrea Bang have joined the cast of BuzzFeed Studios and Lionsgate’s Dear David film.
The film, which is based on the viral Twitter ghost story by former BuzzFeed employee Adam Ellis, has concluded filming and is set to be released in the autumn of 2022.
In August 2017, Ellis shared a ghost story on Twitter about a dead child who was haunting him and following him around. Over the course of many months, the tale became viral, with Ellis acquiring over one million followers.
Prew will portray Ellis, while Long will play BuzzFeed’s CEO. Bang will take on yet another supporting role. The screenplay was written by Mike Van Waes and directed by John McPhail.
Last month, Lionsgate and BuzzFeed announced that Dear David will be their third partnership, after the thriller was previously set up at New Line with Dan Lin producing. Richard Alan Reid, head of global content and BuzzFeed Studios, is now producing alongside Jason Moring, Michael Philip, and Naysun Alae-Carew. Lin (The Lego Movie, Aladdin) and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback will serve as executive producers.
Long is repped by APA and Vision PR, while Bang is repped by Authentic Talent and Literary Management and The Characters Talent Agency. CAA, Authentic, and Wolf-Kasteler Public Relations represent Prew.
