US Announces $99m to Palestinian Refugees

The US  State Department’s Population, Refugee and Migration Bureau. announced $99 million funding for the UN body aiding Palestinian refugees.

“The money to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) will provide education, health care, and emergency relief to hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children and families during a time of need,” the Migration Bureau said.

The support is aimed at pulling Palestinians out of an endemic economic disaster.

Former US President Donald Trump froze funding to the UNRWA, but the incumbent President Joe Biden’s administration announced that it would begin restoring funding to the Palestinians via UNRWA.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli side on the matter but Jerusalem had previously pushed for an end to the funding to UNRWA as they criticized the agency for its textbooks, which they say promote incitement.

Israeli monitoring groups claimed that UNRWA curricula promote violence and deny Israel’s right to exist.
