Mexican security forces arrested the wife of “El Mencho,” the leader of one of the biggest drug cartels in the country.

According to a statement from the Mexican Defense Ministry, authorities arrested Rosalinda Gonzalez-Valencia in Zapopán on suspicion of running the finances of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) on Nov. 15 afternoon.

The statement described Gonzalez-Valencia’s arrest as “a significant blow to the financial structure of organized crime in the state.”

Alleged footage of her arrest circulated in social media.

Gonzalez-Valencia had already been previously detained in 2015 on money laundering charges but was released on bail of 1.5 million pesos ($72,274).

Gonzalez-Valencia’s husband, whose real name is Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, has been on the run for years as Mexico’s most wanted man.

Cervantes is also wanted in the United States.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is offering a $10,000,000 reward for information that would lead to his arrest.

CJNG has been behind a number of deadly attacks on Mexican security forces. It is aligned with the Los Cuinis drug-trafficking organization (DTO) through marriage.

Gonzalez-Valencia and her husband have three children together. One of whom is Rubén Oseguera González, known as “Menchito,” who was extradited to the U.S. on drug trafficking charges in 2020.

Gonzalez-Valencia’s brother Jose Gonzalez-Valencia, the leader of DTO, was extradited to the U.S. from Brazil last week on international trafficking charges.
