A man was airlifted from near the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial after being found with a reportedly self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
Footage circulated in social media showed a helicopter landing at the Lincoln Memorial and searching the pool’s water as a gunshot victim was airlifted in a stretcher.
The victim was found with a gunshot wound to the head at around 7:25 p.m. on Nov. 8, according to the U.S. Park Police.
A video posted on Twitter by Zach Blackburn from The GW Hatchet showed bystanders watching the medical evacuation. “I’ve been here for about an hour. Didn’t hear any shots. Saw the MEDEVAC and a big police response though,” Blackburn tweeted.
The victim was rushed to Westington Hospital Center in an unknown condition, the police said. The victim’s wound is believed to be self-inflicted, but the area has been closed for investigation.
