Syrian Economy and Foreign Trade Minister, Mohammad Samer al-Khalil said he met with Yassin Sharif al-Hujaimi, Iraq’s Chargé d’Affaires, where they discussed the importance of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
The meeting took place at the Iraqi embassy in Damascus, the Capital city of Syria, in which both sides emphasized on the need to increase trade partnership to achieve the common interests of economic prosperity, SANA news agency reported on Monday.
Samer al-Khalil said it’s important to reach a conclusion on procedures at border crossing to reduce custom tariff in order to simplify export of Syrian goods to Iraq.
In his turn, Sharif al-Hujaimi called for more progress in trade relations between the two countries and to further enhance cooperation through the Iraqi-Syrian Joint Committee.
Both sides also shed light on the upcoming “Made-in Syria” exhibition to be held in Iraq on Dec. 26, in which more than 170 industrial and trade companies will participate.
The two sides said the forthcoming exhibition is a significant opportunity for the Iraqi and Syrian businessmen to meet and find a common ground to improve bilateral trade relations, the media outlet added.
